Story Tools

The Goal

Help Intel leaders use the power of story

Storytelling was used to

  • Communicate value

  • Demonstrate competence

  • Influence listeners

What They Said

“OYF had our senior leaders feeling energized and inspired, ready to use storytelling to enhance their leadership and influence.”

“Within the first 10 minutes, OYF had attendees telling stories and getting comfortable finding their authentic voice. Plus, the session was just plain fun and engaging; not your typical training experience.”

What Was Asked

Intel leaders have great ideas and natural storytelling abilities, but they needed help shaping their stories and gaining confidence.

A long-time On Your Feet collaborator, Pamela Kelley-Dockter, contacted us to help address this need for Intel leaders at large and specifically for the Women’s Leadership Academy at Intel for which she is the product owner.

What We Did

We brought the leaders Story Tools: structures and strategies to help people tell their most important stories.

Through a Highly Interactive Virtual Experience (HIVE) we reached global audiences at Intel and focused on Story Tools, because they

  • Are immediately learnable

  • Are supported and refined by behavioral science

  • Help speakers be more confident, authentic, and effective

  • Work very well with Intel leaders’ logical minds

  • Can be applied in big or small storytelling situations

What Happened

Intel leaders left the sessions having new personal stories to tell and the tools to tell more.

Our pre-interviews revealed that three Story Tools would be most useful for the leaders to practice during the sessions:

  • Goal—Insight—Action: how to quickly show the importance of an idea—very useful at Intel for presenting data and strategy in their famously short and busy meetings

  • Multi-Narrative Storytelling: how to tell one clear story through many different narratives—very important at Intel for telling an authentic personal story and reducing stereotyping bias

  • The Story Spine: how to tell the story of the past and convey your vision for the future—very important at Intel for transformative leaders

“OYF proved that anyone can be a great storyteller and provided simple tools and frameworks that are easy to use.”
